DJ LEACY CHIEF ROCKA AWARD

The DJ Leacy “Chief Rocka Award” is for the b-boy who rocks hardest to the music in the crew battles. It honours the unique relationship between the true b-boy and the DJ rockin’ the beats on the 1′s & 2′s…B-Boy Lil Jon from the USA was last years worthy recipient last year.


FRESH AWARDS

Crazy Legs’ “Fresh Awards” has become a classic part of the B-Boy Champs. Each year, members of the audience and competing b-boys line-up against each other to see who’s dressed the “Freshest”! The crowd judge the competition and Crazy Legs subjects them to the ultimate style check. If you’re not fully co-ordinated, you’re out. Past winners include Tim Twist, who came dressed head-to-toe in an amazing ‘Cheech Wizard’ outfit, complete with matching umberella! Every year the entrants step up their game and their incredible display of dope outfits and personal style is always great entertainment.

JAPANESE KIDS B-BOY SHOW

Once again the triumphant crew from a Japanese national competition of over 100 different kids teams will be performing their winning show onstage at the World Finals at the Brixton Academy. Although these pocket-sized performers are only 7-9 years old, their choreography and sheer stage presence always brings the house down!


PLAGUE

Plague was formed in 2000 and featured an original lineup of five dancers, including current choreographer and lead dancer Brooke Milliner. Having won numerous dance events in the UK including the UK StreetDance Championships, Plague were the first UK crew to head over to the USA to compete in the Hip Hop International World Championships where their stunning display blew away the rest of the field and they were crowned as World Champions in 2005. Six years on and Plague are Now 4x UK Hip Hop Champions and current Hip Hop International World Champions for the second time! An achievement that no other crew has matched.

One of the most respected streetdance crews on the planet, Plague’s identity can be defined as a combination of amazing, unique choreography blended with a wealth of skill and ability in numerous dance styles from each individual member of the group. They have been a huge inspiration, not just to other dance groups, but also to the rapidly growing popularity of the streetdance movement here in the UK. Some of Plague’s credits include some major performances such as the Beijing Olympics 2008, Cirque du Soleil, Breakin Convention, Royal Variety Show to name just a few. They also appeared on the high profile BBC show ‘Move Like Michael Jackson’ in which they were runners up in the final showdown after the public vote. Plague will be performing their amazing new show at this years B-Boy Championships, combining Hip-Hop, Popping, Locking and House!


THePETEBOX

Not only is THePETEBOX one of the world’s finest human beatboxers, and he has recently crafted a whole new approach to using his beatbox skills to create music. His live show sees him creating full songs as well as demonstrating his world class beatbox skills. Creating each layer of his tracks live using a loop pedal, THePETEBOX’s shows lead the audience through a journey of real time music production which builds up and delivers a full frequency spectrum of sound, from deep bass, to high pitched trumpets, to multiple vocal harmonies – all made with his mouth!

This pioneering endeavour won THePETEBOX a Channel 4Talent Award, placing him alongside some of the country’s most promising creative and innovative individuals and adding to his earlier gained title as Radio 1 Beatboxing Champion. He has taken his show around Africa and Europe as well as a host of UK performances, which have mesmerised crowds at Glastonbury, Isle of White Festival, Bestival, Creamfields and V Festival amongst many others.

His breathtaking abilities to create, and re-create sounds and arrangements encompassing many styles of music from hip-hop to drum & bass, jazz, house, garage and rock have established him as an explosive live performer and seen him play at countless events around the world. Over the past three years, he has toured and collaborated with Jay Sean, Foreign Beggars and Diversity, leading to notable appearances on MTV, and E4 Music. He has also supported heavyweights like Grandmaster Flash, Will Smith, Pendulum, Mystery Jets, Grooverider, Tim Westwood and even The Human League! THePETBOX truly is UK talent at it’s finest!
